GTA 6 price: what it costs on every platform and edition

Rockstar and Take-Two have still not put a number on Grand Theft Auto VI. This briefing separates what the publisher has actually said from what analysts and forum posts claim, then lays out the realistic price scenarios for each platform and edition so you can budget before pre-orders open.

What we know

The short answer to “how much is GTA 6” is that nobody outside Rockstar knows yet. Neither the Rockstar Store, the PlayStation Store nor the Microsoft Store lists a price. Take-Two was asked about it on every earnings call after the first trailer dropped in December 2023, and CEO Strauss Zelnick deflected for an extended period with the same message: the company aims to deliver more value than it charges, and pricing gets announced when Rockstar is ready. Rockstar has since officially confirmed $79.99 for the standard edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition.

Here is the hard intel that is actually on the record.

  • Release date. Rockstar moved the game twice. The original Fall 2025 window became May 26, 2026, then slipped again to November 19, 2026. That second delay was announced on November 6, 2025. Our “release date for gta 6” page tracks any further movement.
  • Platforms. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. No PC, no Switch 2, no mobile. The Rockstar Store listing and both trailers carry only the two console badges.
  • Setting and leads. The state of Leonida, with Vice City as the main hub. Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval are the two protagonists, which the second trailer in May 2025 confirmed.
  • Pre-orders. Not open. When they do open, the price goes live on the respective digital storefronts at the same time, which is how both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 were handled.

That last point matters. The price will almost certainly surface as a storefront listing, not a press release. Our “gta 6 pre order” guide covers where to watch and what the pre-order bonuses looked like for Rockstar’s last two launches.

Rockstar’s own pricing history

The best evidence for GTA 6 pricing is Rockstar’s track record. The studio has never charged above the industry standard for its base game, and it has used physical collector items rather than inflated base prices to capture extra spend.

Game Launch year Standard Special / Deluxe Top edition
Grand Theft Auto IV 2008 $59.99 None $89.99 Special Edition (lockbox, duffel bag, art book)
Grand Theft Auto V 2013 $59.99 $79.99 Special Edition $149.99 Collector’s Edition (cap, security deposit bag, in-game extras)
Red Dead Redemption 2 2018 $59.99 $79.99 Special Edition $99.99 Ultimate Edition

GTA V launched at $59.99 when $60 was the ceiling. RDR2 launched at $59.99 when $60 was still the ceiling. The pattern is simple: Rockstar charges the going rate for the base game and layers add-ons on top.

The industry ceiling has moved

From 2020 the standard for a big-budget console game was $69.99, and by 2025 the ceiling had moved to $79.99. Sony’s first-party titles, Call of Duty and most Take-Two releases sit there. In 2025 two companies tested $80. Nintendo priced Mario Kart World at $79.99 for the Switch 2 launch in June 2025. Microsoft announced $79.99 for some holiday 2025 first-party titles in May 2025, and The Outer Worlds 2 became the first $79.99 Xbox game when it launched at that price on October 29, 2025.

So the market now has two major publishers shipping $80 games. That is the backdrop every GTA 6 price prediction is working against.

Every claim below is unconfirmed. We name the source and give a credibility call.

Rumor: GTA 6 will cost $80

Source: Analyst commentary, most prominently Matthew Ball of Epyllion in his 2025 State of Video Gaming report, which reported that some in the industry hope Take-Two will price GTA 6 at $80 or even $100, framing that as industry sentiment rather than his own prediction. Numerous Reddit and X posts have since presented “$80” as confirmed.

Credibility call: RUMOR, plausible. The “confirmed” framing is DEBUNKED. No statement from Rockstar, Take-Two, Sony or Microsoft has attached $80 to this game. The number is an educated guess built on Mario Kart World’s pricing and the sheer scale of the project. If you see a headline saying GTA 6 is confirmed at $80, it is a forum post or an outlet misreading analyst notes.

Rumor: GTA 6 will cost $100

Source: The same Ball report raised $100 as a possibility, and several financial commentators speculated that a title this large could command it.

Credibility call: RUMOR, low probability for the standard edition. Take-Two’s own language cuts against this. Zelnick has said on earnings calls that the company prices title by title and tries to leave value on the table for the consumer. A $100 base price would be a first for the industry and would invite backlash well beyond anything the $80 moves have drawn. A $100 Ultimate-style edition, on the other hand, fits Rockstar’s precedent exactly.

Rumor: a $70 launch price to maximize install base

Source: Investor commentary and games press reasoning from Take-Two’s business model, where GTA Online and GTA+ generate recurring revenue after the sale.

Credibility call: RUMOR, credible. GTA V sold over 200 million copies partly because its base price was never a barrier. Take-Two’s recurrent consumer spending is its largest revenue line, and the online component of GTA 6 benefits from the widest possible player pool. A standard $69.99 price is the boring outcome, and boring outcomes are usually right.

Rumor: a PC version will arrive later at a lower price

Source: Inference from history. GTA V hit PC in April 2015, 19 months after consoles. RDR2 hit PC in December 2019, 13 months after consoles.

Credibility call: Not announced; the delay is near certain, the discount is not. Both prior PC ports launched at full price on the Rockstar Launcher and Steam. Expect the same here. Steam Deck compatibility is also unknown and unlikely to be a day-one priority.

Rumor: a physical collector’s edition with vintage-style props

Source: Extrapolation from the GTA V Collector’s Edition and the RDR2 Ultimate Edition physical bundle. No retailer listing exists.

Credibility call: Not announced, likely. Rockstar has packaged a physical top-tier for every mainline release since GTA IV. If the pattern holds, this is where the $150 and above spend lands, not the standard disc.

The practical takeaway is that a GTA 6 standard edition will cost you $79.99, with the Ultimate Edition confirmed at $99.99. Anything above that for the base game would mark a deliberate break from fifteen years of Rockstar pricing.

Price scenarios by platform

Both console versions have always shared a price. There is no reason to expect a PS5 and Xbox split. Regional pricing follows each storefront’s usual conversions rather than a straight currency exchange.

Scenario US (PS5 / Xbox) UK EU Likelihood
Industry standard $69.99 £69.99 €79.99 High
New ceiling $79.99 £74.99 €89.99 Moderate
Premium base $99.99 £89.99 €109.99 Low
PC at launch Not announced Not announced Not announced Very low

The UK and EU figures are the conversions Sony and Microsoft have applied to recent releases at those US price points, not Rockstar numbers.

Compare editions (projected from precedent)

No edition has been announced. The table below is built on the RDR2 and GTA V structure so you know what each tier has historically included and what it has cost.

Edition Historical price What it usually contains Who it is for
Standard (digital or disc) $59.99 then, $69.99 to $79.99 now The full game, story mode, online access when it launches Most players
Special / Deluxe Base plus $20 Bonus story missions, exclusive weapons and vehicles, outfits, in-game cash Players who want every piece of single-player content
Ultimate Base plus $40 Everything in Special plus online bonuses, early access to online items, map and art book in physical versions Players who plan to live in online mode
Collector’s (physical) $149.99 and up Physical props, art book, steelbook, often no game disc included Collectors and the merch crowd

Rockstar’s RDR2 Special Edition locked the Bank Robbery Mission and Gang Hideout content behind the $79.99 tier. Expect a similar restriction on some additional story content for GTA 6, which is the only real reason to pay above standard.

Pros and cons of each buying option

Standard edition
– Pros: lowest cost, complete main story, nothing meaningful locked away at launch.
– Cons: any bonus missions or vehicles require a separate purchase later, usually at a worse rate.

Special or Deluxe edition
– Pros: bonus story content, exclusive items, usually the best value per dollar of the upgraded tiers.
– Cons: $20 for content Rockstar has historically sold to everyone anyway after a few months.

Ultimate edition
– Pros: everything in one package, online bonuses that save grinding time.
– Cons: online starts weeks after the single-player launch, so you pay for extras you cannot use on day one.

Physical collector’s edition
– Pros: genuine shelf value, limited runs appreciate.
– Cons: often ships without the game, costs more than every digital tier combined.

Waiting for a sale
– Pros: GTA V dropped to $29.99 within about a year and spent a decade at discount prices.
– Cons: GTA 6 is the biggest launch in the medium’s history and spoilers will not wait for you.

Which should you choose

Buy the standard edition at launch. Rockstar’s bonus content has always ended up in every player’s hands eventually, and the story is the reason this game exists. Only step up to the Special or Deluxe tier if it includes additional story missions rather than cosmetics. Skip the Ultimate tier unless online mode is your main interest, and skip the collector’s edition unless you actually want the props.

If you are on PC, the honest advice is to wait. A Rockstar PC port a year or more after console is the historical norm, and it will not be cheaper, but it will arrive patched and with higher-end visuals.

What to watch

Three signals will tell you the price before any official announcement.

  1. Pre-order go-live. The storefront listing is the announcement. Watch the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store rather than Rockstar’s social accounts.
  2. Take-Two earnings calls. The company reports quarterly, and the call before pre-orders open is where Zelnick will stop deflecting.
  3. Retailer placeholders. Physical retailers routinely list unreleased games at $69.99 or $79.99 as placeholders. These are not confirmations and have been wrong before.

Agent's note

Rockstar sold GTA V’s digital pre-order with an in-game bonus (the Atomic Blimp) rather than a discount, and RDR2 pre-orders got War Horse and Outlaw Survival Kit items plus a cash bonus for digital buyers. Expect a bonus, not a price cut, for ordering early.

Heads up

Any site taking money for GTA 6 keys, discounted pre-orders or “early access” right now is not selling a real product. No storefront has opened orders and no key exists to resell.

How much does GTA 6 cost?

The standard edition is confirmed at $79.99 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with an Ultimate Edition at $99.99. That sits at the top of the range Rockstar’s history pointed to, since the studio has never charged more than the industry standard for a base game.

Is the GTA 6 price confirmed at $80?

No. The $80 figure comes from analyst predictions and has been repeated as fact on forums. Neither Rockstar, Take-Two, Sony nor Microsoft has confirmed it.

Will GTA 6 cost $100?

Unlikely for the standard edition. A $100 price has been floated by analysts, but Take-Two has repeatedly said it wants to deliver more value than it charges. A $100 Ultimate edition would match RDR2’s top digital tier and is far more plausible.

Will the PS5 and Xbox versions be the same price?

Almost certainly. GTA V and RDR2 launched at identical prices on PlayStation and Xbox, and there is no precedent for a platform split from Rockstar.

How much will GTA 6 cost on PC?

A PC version has not been announced. Previous Rockstar PC ports arrived 13 to 19 months after consoles at full price, so do not count on a discount.

When will the GTA 6 price be announced?

When pre-orders open. Rockstar has given no date, but the storefront listing has historically gone live alongside the pre-order bonus details, several months ahead of the November 19, 2026 release.
