Rockstar’s own pre-order announcement names June 25 as the opening date. Rockstar’s official synopsis sets the tone for what you are buying. Jason and Lucia “have always known the deck is stacked against them.” When an easy score goes wrong, they end up “on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America,” caught in a criminal conspiracy that stretches across Leonida and forced to rely on each other to make it out alive.
That is the main story pitch. Everything else about content, from the size of the map to any online component, has only been shown through trailer images and the character pages on Rockstar’s site.
The two delays, in order
Rockstar announced the first slip on May 2, 2025, moving the game from fall 2025 to May 26, 2026. The second came on November 6, 2025, alongside Take-Two’s quarterly earnings, pushing it to November 19, 2026.

Why pre-orders open this late
Rockstar opened GTA V pre-orders on November 5, 2012, roughly ten months before that game shipped on September 17, 2013. A June 25 opening for GTA VI lands about five months ahead of launch. That is a shorter runway than 2013, which tracks with Rockstar’s recent habit of holding marketing beats until the date is locked.

The price picture, honestly
Zelnick has said, more than once on earnings calls, that Take-Two sets pricing per title based on the value delivered. That is the closest thing to an official position, and it is not a number.
The $80 figure gained traction after Nintendo priced Mario Kart World at $79.99 in 2025 and Microsoft raised some first-party prices. GTA VI is the obvious candidate for a new ceiling, which is exactly why rumor fills the vacuum. Our position: do not budget around any figure until the store page shows it.
PC
Rockstar has said nothing about a PC version. The historical gaps tell you what to expect rather than what is promised. GTA IV reached PC about seven months after consoles. GTA V took roughly 19 months. Red Dead Redemption 2 took about 11 months.
If you play only on PC, there is no pre-order to place and nothing to wait on until Rockstar says otherwise.
What it means
Pre-ordering a digital game on PS5 or Xbox carries little risk. Both stores let you cancel a pre-order for a full refund before the game unlocks, and the money is not charged until close to launch on PlayStation if you opt for that.
Physical pre-orders are where stock matters. GTA V’s Collector’s Edition sold out at many retailers, and any premium GTA VI package will do the same within hours. If you want a boxed premium edition, be at the retailer page on June 25, not a week later.

On PS5, pre-ordering gives you pre-load. Sony typically pushes the download roughly 48 hours before unlock for major releases, and a game this size will be well over 100 GB. Clear SSD space in advance or you will spend launch night watching a progress bar.

The PlayStation Store listing for GTA VI already exists as a product page, which is why it ranks for pre-order searches. Until June 25 it functions as a wishlist target. Wishlisting it means you get a notification the moment pre-orders flip live.
How to pre-order GTA 6 on Xbox Series X|S

- Pay with a saved card or Microsoft account balance. Xbox charges at the time of pre-order.
- Head to My Games and Apps, then Full Library, to install the pre-load when it appears.
- Set your console to Instant-On if you want the download to run overnight.
One Xbox detail worth flagging: the game ships for Series X|S only. There is no Xbox One version, so an Xbox One console cannot pre-order or play it.

Physical editions require a disc drive. The PS5 Digital Edition and the Xbox Series S have none, so a boxed copy is useless on those machines. Buy digital or a code.
Heads up
Digital pre-order codes sold on unofficial key sites are a known scam vector for big launches. If a listing appears before June 25 or undercuts the official price heavily, it is not real. Buy from the six retailers above or Rockstar directly.
What GTA V pre-orders looked like, as a benchmark

Every pre-order, at any tier, unlocked the Atomic Blimp for flying around Los Santos. That is the pattern fans keep projecting onto GTA VI. It may repeat. It has not been announced.
The $20 step between standard and Special Edition, and the $150 cap for the collector tier, are the shape to watch for. If GTA VI’s standard price lands at $69.99 or $79.99, expect the tiers above it to scale the same way.
GTA 6 early access: what exists and what does not
There is no GTA 6 early access. Rockstar has not sold timed early play for any mainline title, and the June 25 announcement does not mention it.
What you will likely get instead is pre-load, which is not the same thing. Pre-load lets the data sit on your drive. The game still unlocks for everyone at the same moment.
GTA Online for GTA V launched two weeks after the single-player game, on October 1, 2013. Rockstar has not confirmed any online component for GTA VI, let alone its timing. Our bet is a staggered rollout again, but that is our read, not a leak.
