GTA 6 PS5 and Xbox storage: Rockstar confirms Nov 12 preload, no size yet

RUMOR

Rockstar has confirmed that players who pre-order GTA VI digitally can start pre-loading on Nov 12, 2026, a week before the Nov 19 launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has not given a download size or storage requirement. Every gigabyte figure now circulating comes from estimates, anonymous posts or outright fakes.

What we know

Rockstar announced the pre-load window in a Jun 24, 2026 press release distributed via Business Wire and hosted on Take-Two Interactive’s investor relations site. Digital pre-order customers can begin pre-loading on Nov 12, 2026.

The physical edition is not a disc. Rockstar confirmed it contains only a download code and goes on sale Nov 12 so boxed buyers can pre-load the same day. The Rockstar Games Store page states that no disc is included. Every copy, boxed or digital, needs the full install on console storage.

The Rockstar Games Store lists “Pre-load begins November 12, 2026” for both the Standard and Ultimate editions. The listing text, as retrieved, shows no download size and no storage requirement.

What we don’t know yet

The size. As of Oct 26, 2026, Rockstar’s pre-order release and store page give a date and nothing more. Forbes reported the same day that no official file size has been announced, and guide sites including DLCompare agree.

The hour. Rockstar has not confirmed when the pre-load or the launch unlocks. Unofficial reports say Rockstar Support lists the pre-load as opening at midnight local time, and that store listings point to a midnight local unlock on Nov 19. Both remain unconfirmed.

What is rumored

The most specific figure, 244.86 GB, comes from a single Reddit screenshot dated Sep 19, 2026 that appears to show a PlayStation “required” screen. gtasix.org describes it and says IBTimes UK could not verify it. The account, origin and build behind it are unknown.

Several claims cluster around 200 GB. Fan tracker account @GTAVI_Countdown posted on Oct 25 that the size may surface in Sony’s PlayStation Store database before Nov 12, predicting 150-200 GB plus a day-one patch. GameGPU echoed it. That is a forecast, not a leak. An X account called “GTA 6 Intel” claimed “just under 200GB,” as relayed by gtaviinsider.com, which says the account has an accurate record. That record is unverified.

TweakTown reported a claim by Cyberleek, a named account that has been posting leaked GTA 6 footage, that a full development build runs past 200 GB, a claim the account tied to a crypto-linked roadmap. TweakTown itself notes a development build is not a retail download.

Fan and guide sites such as gtaboom.com, staticcoast.com and thegta6insider.com estimate 150-250 GB plus a day-one patch. These are extrapolations from GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, not reporting. gtasix.org says nobody quoting them has a source at Rockstar.

Two figures are already dead. The 676.7 GB claim with 92 trophies, posted by @GameJoker_ on X and falsely attributed to IGN, is a hoax. A Community Note says the account is a known parody account and that Rockstar, IGN and the stores have confirmed no size. gtasix.org reports Insider Gaming spotted Xbox One listed as an install target, a console GTA 6 is not releasing on. The related 750 GB claim falls with it.

The 328.76 MB entry on the Xbox Store is not the game either. Gaming Bible explained in October 2026 that it is a small placeholder that triggers the real pre-load, and gtasix.org, checking on Sep 28, 2026, says it cannot be the full game.

What it means

Plan for a large install, but do not budget around any specific number. Forbes cites GTA V Enhanced at about 86.8 GB on PS5 and 94.2 GB on Xbox, against roughly 667 GB of usable space on a launch PS5 and about 364 GB on a 512 GB Xbox Series S. Even the top of the unofficial range would fit on either console, though on a Series S it would take a large share of the drive. Headlines calling the size a “major problem” rest on those estimates, not an official figure.

The practical move: clear space before Nov 12 and watch the Rockstar Games Store and console store listings. Until one of them shows a figure, the size is unknown.

His beat is everything attached to the next game: release windows, launch details, official trailers, platform plans and the steady drip of leaks that fills the gap between Rockstar announcements. He treats every claim as a question of sourcing first. A Take-Two earnings call or a Rockstar Newswire post gets reported as fact. A datamine or a tipster with a mixed record gets labeled as such. When a story shifts, he updates the piece and says what changed rather than quietly rewriting it. Readers should always be able to tell what is confirmed and what is still talk.
