GTA 6 TV spot reuses launch trailer, with shower shots cut and extra Lucia frames

CONFIRMED

Rockstar’s first GTA 6 TV commercial is a trimmed version of the launch trailer, not new footage. Kotaku and IGN report the spot aired on October 20, 2026, during NBA season opening night, with shower scenes removed and a few extra frames of Lucia added. Neither outlet found anything new in it.

What we know

Kotaku reports that viewers first spotted the ad during the Knicks vs 76ers game. Others reported the same or a similar spot during Pistons/Celtics and Thunder/Spurs that night. This is Kotaku’s account of viewer sightings, not a Rockstar statement. IGN, as relayed by Mezha.net and 7MMO, describes it as a 90-second spot seen on NBC Sports.

The base material is the launch trailer Rockstar released on October 15, 2026. Kotaku noted at the time that the trailer would likely be used heavily for TV. Unlike earlier trailers, it carries a narrator giving the game’s name, launch date and ESRB rating.

The reports diverge on the cuts. Kotaku says the ad is basically the launch trailer with some shower scenes missing. In the version Kotaku embedded, the first shower scene stays and the other two are gone. IGN’s relayed report says all three shower-kissing shots were removed. That count is the outlier, and we are not treating it as settled.

The additions are small. Kotaku says a few extra frames follow the moment Jason jokingly punches Lucia’s arm, and a few more appear in the shot where she jumps from a truck onto a plane’s landing gear. IGN says the freed time extends a plane shot and a Jason and Lucia shot at a car, where she nearly falls over when Jason nudges her. IGN says this gives a closer look at her hair and describes the extension as a few milliseconds. Kotaku says none of it reveals anything new. Claims that the spot shows new hair technology go beyond what either outlet reported.

IGN, via 7MMO, also reports that the spot does not mention Xbox as a playable platform. IGN notes the game launches on PS5 and both Xbox Series consoles, and that the trailers feature gameplay captured on PS5. Rockstar has not said why Xbox is absent.

Rockstar’s Newswire states that Grand Theft Auto VI releases Thursday, November 19, 2026.

What is rumored

GTA 6 Countdown (@GTAVI_Countdown), a fan-run account rated grade D, posted on X on October 21 that the Xbox logo was “completely removed due to the deal with PlayStation.” Kotaku, 7MMO, EGW and ComicBook.com echoed the post. The account’s description of the cuts matches Kotaku and IGN. The reason it gives, a Sony marketing deal, is its own inference. Neither Rockstar nor Sony has said so in any source we found.

Fan tracking account RockstarINTEL (grade C), as relayed by TalkEsport, says the TV version also drops a short shot of an ankle tag on Lucia’s leg, which some read as a hint she is on parole. The comparison can be checked against the video, but it is unofficial.

An unnamed fan account, cited by TalkEsport and rated grade D, claims the three shower shots come from separate story moments and are optional depending on how players handle Jason and Lucia’s relationship. Rockstar has not confirmed this.

TheGamer, citing Twitter user videotech (grade D), reports that the ad also cuts some violent moments. Kotaku and TalkEsport say the violence stayed in, so this claim is disputed.

Kotaku’s writer also suspects the ad will run during an upcoming Miami Heat game reportedly sponsored by GTA 6. That is opinion inside a news piece, rated grade D, and nothing official supports it.

What we don’t know yet

We don’t know why Rockstar made these edits. No official statement was found. The idea that the shower scenes were cut for broadcast standards is outlet inference.

The exact shower count still needs a frame-by-frame check of the full broadcast. It is also unclear whether more than one cut of the spot aired, which could explain the conflicting counts.

The reason Xbox goes unmentioned is unconfirmed. A PC release has not been announced.

What it means

This is a marketing artifact, not a reveal. Rockstar is leaning on the launch trailer, as Kotaku predicted it would, and trimming it for broadcast slots about a month before launch.

Anyone hunting for new Lucia material will find a few frames of existing shots, nothing more. The Xbox omission is the detail most likely to keep circulating. So far, the only stated cause comes from a fan account, and it should be read that way until Rockstar, Sony or Microsoft says otherwise.
