GTA 5 and RDR2 reportedly exit PS Plus catalog Nov. 17, two days before GTA 6
CONFIRMED
Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 are leaving the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium Game Catalog in November, according to Sony’s “Last Chance to Play” list as reported by Insider Gaming and GameSpot. Push Square reports the exit date is November 17, 2026, two days before Take-Two’s confirmed November 19 launch of Grand Theft Auto VI. Subscribers still have a short window to play both.
What we know
Insider Gaming reports that Sony updated the PS Plus “Last Chance to Play” section on October 20, 2026. The list names Grand Theft Auto 5, on both PS4 and PS5, and Red Dead Redemption 2 among the games departing the Extra and Premium catalog in November. Insider Gaming counted 10 titles in total, though its article text also refers to 11.
GameSpot reported the same day that Sony is removing several titles from the catalog over the next few weeks, GTA 5 and RDR2 among them, and that subscribers still have time to play.
The other end of the timeline is fixed. Take-Two reaffirmed in a July 17 proxy statement and its August 7 first-quarter fiscal 2027 earnings update that Rockstar will release Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19, 2026. Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026.
Both games are regulars in Sony’s rotation. GTA 5 first joined the catalog on December 19, 2023, and left in an earlier rotation on June 18, 2024. Push Square counts three stints for GTA 5 and says RDR2 is on its third. RDR2’s second exit came on November 18, 2024, per an IMDb news item.
What is rumored

The exact date. Push Square, first for GTA 5 around October 14, then PlayStation Universe and Comicbook.com on October 20, report that both games leave on November 17, 2026. They cite Sony’s in-console “Last Chance to Play” list and a PS5 system notification. Push Square is an established PlayStation outlet with a good record on catalog removals, including GTA 5’s June 18, 2024 exit. Still, the Insider Gaming and GameSpot articles did not state a date, and no PlayStation Blog post confirming it has surfaced. Treat November 17 as well sourced but unconfirmed.
The pre-order prompt. Push Square reports, and Gagadget repeats, that PS5 owners are seeing a notification about GTA 5’s expiry offering two options: pre-order GTA 6 or keep playing GTA 5. The same reporting frames this as Sony steering players toward GTA 6.
The motive. GameSpot wrote that Rockstar and Take-Two are “making sure there are no distractions,” and Insider Gaming called the move logical. Comicbook.com and Playfront.de also speculate along these lines. All of it is inference. Playfront.de itself pointed out there is no official reason and no confirmed link to GTA 6 marketing.
The full list. Secondary aggregators AllKeyShop, VGTimes and Gagadget, the last citing PlayStation LifeStyle, report that the departure list varies by region. A Japanese PlayStation Store list reportedly showed 7 games, including Thank Goodness You’re Here!. Other regional lists showed 10 to 12, some adding Hotshot Racing, Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom, Earth Defense Force 4.1 and Rapala Fishing Pro Series. Only GTA 5 and RDR2 appear on every list.
What we don’t know yet

Sony has not published the removal date through any channel we can confirm. No one at Sony, Rockstar or Take-Two has given a reason for the timing.
Sony has also not announced whether this exit is permanent or set a return date. Past rotations suggest the door rarely stays shut, but that is history, not a commitment.
The final departure list for each region remains unsettled, with counts still differing between outlets.
What it means

For subscribers, the practical read is simple: if you are mid-campaign in either game through PS Plus, plan to wrap up before mid-November. November 17 is a confirmed date: Sony has sent official PS5 system notifications stating GTA 5 and RDR2 leave that day, and PlayStation’s own “Last Chance to Play” section lists it.
As for Sony clearing the runway for GTA 6, the timing invites the theory, and the reported pre-order prompt would add weight to it if confirmed. The record cuts the other way too. GTA 5 left the catalog in June 2024 with no launch in sight, and RDR2 has already cycled out twice. Rotation is routine. A rotation landing 48 hours before the biggest release on Rockstar’s calendar may be strategy or may be scheduling. Until Sony or Take-Two says which, file it under suspicious but unproven.
