Where to preorder GTA 6 on PS5 and Xbox, and what code-in-box means

CONFIRMED

Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders have been open since June 25, 2026, which puts them roughly 16 weeks into the cycle as of this briefing. Rockstar’s own storefront, the PlayStation Store, the Xbox Store and a set of retailers are all taking orders ahead of the November 19, 2026 launch. The physical edition ships without a disc, a detail Rockstar has confirmed and one that keeps retail fans arguing.

What we know

Rockstar’s press release, distributed via Business Wire on June 24, 2026, set pre-orders to begin June 25 at midnight local time. The same release fixed the launch at November 19, 2026. Nothing about that schedule has changed since.

Rockstar Games Customer Support lists three first-party storefronts for pre-orders: the PlayStation Store, the Xbox Store and the Rockstar Store. Select retailers and third-party storefronts also take pre-orders where the game is sold in the buyer’s country. If you want a boxed copy, that is the route.

On the box itself, Rockstar Customer Support states the game comes in digital and physical versions, but a disc will not be included in the physical package. The Rockstar Store listing spells it out as a Physical (Code-in-Box) Version: a download code only, no disc. Video Games Chronicle reported Rockstar’s confirmation of the same arrangement. In practical terms, the boxed edition is a redemption code in retail packaging. Buyers still need to download the full game and storage space to match.

Timing matters here. Per Rockstar’s press release, digital pre-orders can begin pre-loading on November 12, 2026. The code-in-box version is available from November 12 as well, so physical buyers can redeem and pre-load on the same schedule rather than waiting for launch day.

On price, Rockstar’s retailer and storefront listings put the Standard Edition at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99 in the US. VGC reported the same tiers as $80 and $100. Rockstar’s announcement and store page say pre-orders include the Vintage Vice City Pack, and digital pre-orders add a free month of GTA+.

Platforms are PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Take-Two’s SEC Form 8-K earnings release lists Grand Theft Auto VI for those two platforms with the November 19 date and no PC entry. Rockstar has not announced a PC version.

For context on how the physical plan evolved: IGN, reporting on a Variety interview tied to Take-Two’s Q3 FY2026 earnings, noted that CEO Strauss Zelnick answered “That’s not the plan” when asked about delaying physical copies. Take-Two told IGN that was a denial of any physical delay. Rockstar’s later code-in-box announcement squares with that denial in letter, since a boxed product does ship, but the box holds no disc.

What we don’t know yet

Rockstar has not said whether a disc edition will ever exist. Its support page and store listing say that physical copies contain a download code redeemable for the digital game and that a disc is not in the box, nothing more. There is no official word on a later disc release, a date for one, or whether code-in-box is the permanent format.

Rockstar has not announced a PC version, and Take-Two’s filing lists none. Treat any PC date as unannounced.

Rockstar has not explained the reasoning behind the discless format, so claims about leak prevention or production logistics remain outside the confirmed record.

What is rumored

Polish outlet PPE.pl, citing a screenshot of an alleged Rockstar customer service reply and its insider Graczdari, claims a disc version will arrive in the “following months” after launch, with the leaker suggesting December or early 2027. Notebookcheck and PC Guide relayed the report. The screenshot is unverified and Rockstar has not confirmed it. PC Guide notes Graczdari and PPE.pl correctly called the no-disc-at-launch outcome, but their earlier timing claims conflicted, ranging from 3-4 weeks after digital to 2027.

Rockstar did confirm no disc at launch, but Zelnick’s denial and the November 12 code-in-box release complicate the broader picture.

A May 18 pre-order date circulated through a Best Buy affiliate email, a YouTuber and Wccftech. Rockstar’s June 24 announcement debunked it. A fully digital launch was also claimed; the code-in-box edition debunks that, though the no-disc portion held.

For buyers, the storefront choice is straightforward: order digitally from Sony, Microsoft or Rockstar, or buy a box with a code from a retailer. Either path pre-loads from November 12. What changes is what sits on the shelf. The box is a collectible and a redemption slip, not a playable disc, and it cannot be lent or resold as a used game once redeemed. Anyone holding out for a disc is waiting on a rumor, not an announcement.
