White House X account jokes US got flying cars before GTA 6 after Roadster demo
CONFIRMED
The official @WhiteHouse X account posted a GTA-style image at 11:35 PM on October 16, 2026 with the caption “We really got flying cars before GTA 6,” one day after Tesla’s Roadster demo in Texas. The post had 2.1 million views at the time of this briefing. Grand Theft Auto VI remains dated for November 19, 2026, per Rockstar’s own Newswire.
What we know
The primary source is the White House account itself. The caption reads “We really got flying cars before GTA 6” and the post went up at 11:35 PM on October 16, 2026. We could not open the image directly. Coverage describes it as a stylized GTA-style picture of Trump walking past a hovering car, with Marine One overhead.
The timing tracks with Tesla. On October 15, Tesla unveiled its redesigned Roadster at SpaceX’s McGregor, Texas test site. Fox Business and the Austin American-Statesman reported the demo included a ramp launch, a midair flip using cold-gas thrusters, and a claimed 0-60 mph time under one second. Neither of those outlets is on our approved list, and Tesla’s figures, including a claimed 0.81 second 0-60 time, had no independent testing as of October 16, per The News International. That same outlet notes critics describe the demo as a hop rather than flight.
On the Rockstar side, the facts are stable. Rockstar’s Newswire post of November 6, 2025 moved GTA VI from May 26, 2026 to Thursday, November 19, 2026, with an apology for the wait. Rockstar’s Newswire page for the August 27 “Extended Look” repeats November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar’s Launch Trailer, released October 15, 2026 and seen via its own post embedded by gg.deals, carries the same date and platforms.
This is not the first time the account has used the format. On June 18, 2026 the White House posted an earlier GTA-style image of Trump captioned “We really saved America before GTA 6,” which AOL reported drew over 8 million views and 85K likes. GTABoom reported on June 19 that Rockstar answered “No comment” when asked about it. Neither AOL nor GTABoom is on our approved list.
What is rumored

The News International, a Pakistani outlet not on our approved list, says Musk “reportedly” amplified the Roadster/GTA meme. It gave no primary link and we found no Musk post. Grade D.
The same outlet describes the White House post as captioning a “Vice City” image featuring the Tesla. That conflicts with other coverage, which describes Trump walking past a hovering car with GTA-style “Make America Great Again” lettering. We could not resolve the discrepancy without the image. Grade D.
The image is widely labeled AI-generated, including in an AOL headline, but the only direct support we found is an X user reply under the post reading “Made with AI.” There is no White House statement on how the image was produced. Plausible given the June precedent, still unconfirmed. Grade D.
AOL also reports the picture was released on the White House’s Instagram account with 123.5K reactions. We verified the X post only. Grade D.
What we don’t know yet

We have not seen the image itself and cannot confirm its contents, the presence of a Tesla, or any Vice City branding. Rockstar has not commented on this post, and based on its June “No comment,” a response is unlikely. Multiple outlets report Musk amplified the meme, but we have not found a primary post from him.
What it means

The “before GTA 6” format exists because of the gap between GTA V in September 2013 and GTA VI, a 13-year wait that gaming coverage describes as the longest in the series. A government account using that joke on the week Rockstar dropped its Launch Trailer says more about the meme’s reach than about the game.
The operational facts have not moved. GTA VI is dated November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S by Rockstar’s own Newswire. Everything else here is a car, a caption, and a view count.
