GTA 6 gold status unconfirmed as Rockstar’s Hooker details final push to Nov 19
CONFIRMED
The “not gold” framing around Grand Theft Auto VI comes from secondary coverage of Bloomberg’s development feature, not from Rockstar itself. VICE, meanwhile, has pushed back on headlines claiming Rockstar admitted the game is unfinished.
What we know
The source material is Jason Schreier’s Bloomberg Businessweek feature on GTA 6 development, published around October 14, 2026. Per GTAVice.net and VICE, Schreier visited Rockstar North in Edinburgh and spoke with Rob Nelson, Aaron Garbut, Phil Hooker and Jennifer Kolbe. VICE notes the visit took place in September, so Hooker’s remarks predate the article by several weeks.
Insider Gaming, reporting on the Bloomberg interview, says Hooker described GTA 6 as never fully settled and said the team has changed things “within the last few months.” Insider Gaming also reports Hooker attributed the game’s delays to elements not coming together as planned in the intended timeframe, rather than any major dramatic problem.
That fits the official record. GTA 6 slipped from Fall 2025 to May 26, 2026, then in November 2025 to November 19, 2026. Rockstar said the extra months would let it “finish the game with the level of polish” fans expect, and Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said a limited amount of additional time was needed for polish.
GameSpot reports the November 19 date remains in place and that Rockstar has not announced a review embargo.
Ongoing changes in October are standard practice, not a warning sign on their own.
What is rumored

The claim that GTA 6 has not gone gold is Notebookcheck’s interpretation of the Bloomberg piece. Notebookcheck is a secondary aggregator, not a primary source, and we could not verify that Bloomberg itself states the game is not gold. No official Rockstar or Take-Two statement on gold status was found. Notebookcheck also expects the game to clear Sony and Microsoft certification in November, and says the ongoing work does not itself signal another delay. Treat all of this as grade D until Rockstar speaks.
On reviews, NateTheHate, an insider widely described as reliable, posted on ResetEra that review copies will reach critics before the end of October 2026. GameSpot and Notebookcheck relayed the claim. Rockstar has not confirmed it.
Insider Gaming, an established outlet, reported on October 14, 2026 that reviews will go live before the November 19 launch, but did not reveal an embargo date and described the timing as subject to change. The original article was reportedly deleted, and Rockstar has announced no embargo at all, so this sits as a rumor despite the outlet’s track record.
Separately, Notebookcheck says the PC version is reportedly expected in Q1 2027, citing GamesBeat. Rockstar has not confirmed a PC date.
What we don’t know yet

Whether GTA 6 has gone gold, and when it will. Rockstar has issued no statement either way. For comparison, a fan-site post on iGrandTheftAuto says Rockstar announced GTA V had gone gold 24 days before release; that is not an official source, and Rockstar is under no obligation to repeat the pattern.
Whether a review embargo exists and when it lifts. GameSpot confirms nothing has been announced. The timing claims trace back to Insider Gaming and NateTheHate, with outlets including Notebookcheck, GameSpot and Screen Rant relaying or building on those reports, and the original Insider Gaming article was reportedly deleted.
What exactly Hooker’s “changed things” refers to. VICE’s reading is that the quote concerns technical complexity and why development took so long, not missing features. Rockstar has not elaborated.
What it means

The debunked claim is the one to watch. VICE reports that headlines calling GTA 6 “unfinished” misread Hooker’s comments, which were made in September and spoke to the game’s complexity rather than to gaps in content. Nothing in the confirmed record suggests Rockstar has walked back the November 19 date, and GameSpot reports the date is unchanged.
The not-yet-gold angle, as it stands, rests on an aggregator’s interpretation. Notebookcheck itself says the continuing work does not point to another delay. A game going gold in early-to-mid November would be tight but not unusual.
The practical signals to track are official: a gold announcement from Rockstar, an embargo date, and whether review copies actually land before the end of October as NateTheHate claims. Until one of those appears, the launch date is confirmed and everything about the final certification push remains unverified.
