GTA 6 rated PEGI 18 and ESRB M, deleted PEGI page cited drugs and decapitation

CONFIRMED

GTA 6 has received a Mature rating from the ESRB and an 18 certificate from PEGI, according to PC Gamer. The same outlet reports that PEGI briefly published a detailed summary of the game that cited frequent drug use and detailed decapitation, then pulled the page within about a day. Neither Rockstar nor PEGI has explained the removal.

What we know

PC Gamer reports that GTA 6 carries an ESRB Mature rating in the US and a PEGI 18 certificate in Europe. That is the same pairing every mainline GTA has carried since GTA III, so the headline ratings are not a surprise.

The PEGI write-up is the story. PC Gamer reports that PEGI’s listing went further than other boards and described systems Rockstar had not detailed itself. The listing called drug use “frequent and prominent” and said players can use illegal drugs directly from their inventory. PEGI’s example, per PC Gamer, was that cocaine can be carried and snorted from the hand at any time.

The decapitation detail comes from the same page. PC Gamer’s headline reports it as “detailed decapitation.” The listing appeared around Oct 2, 2026 and was gone by Oct 3.

Secondary guides report that Rockstar placed the final ESRB M badge on its own site and on the PlayStation and Xbox stores on Oct 1. The descriptors listed are Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content and Use of Drugs and Alcohol, plus In-Game Purchases. Screen Rant says the list matches GTA V’s. Neither source sits on our approved list, so treat the descriptor roll as likely but not locked.

One correction for the record: the “Adults Only” label circulating in headlines does not refer to the ESRB’s AO category. PC Gamer reports the ESRB rating as Mature. AO games are effectively refused by major retailers, and the loose “adults only” phrasing is shorthand for M, PEGI 18 and R18+ taken together.

What is rumored

IGN, as relayed by virus.hr, and Forbes contributor Paul Tassi report that the deleted PEGI listing also mentioned scenes of sexual fetishes, paid lap dances, groping of strippers, and violence against civilians and police. Both are established outlets, but the original page is gone, and tech-insider.org says no independent outlet has checked the exact wording against an archived copy. Rockstar and PEGI have not commented. Treat the specifics as unverified.

Secondary outlets including Beebom, GTA BOOM and Shane the Gamer, citing the Australian government database and store listings, report that Australia’s Classification Board rated GTA 6 R18+ on Aug 27, 2026, with consumer advice for high-impact violence, sex scenes and drug use. New Zealand is reported as R18. The database is an official record, but we only saw it through aggregators. Earlier claims of an “X 18+” rating from a PlayStation ad screenshot and an MA15+ rating from 2023 are dead: GTA BOOM notes Australia has no X18+ category for games, and Sportskeeda called the old MA15+ entry a likely placeholder.

GTA BOOM, a fan and news site not on our approved list, claims South Korea’s GCRB issued a 19+ rating around Oct 16, 2026, alongside CERO Z in Japan, USK 18 in Germany, ClassInd 18 in Brazil and 21+ storefront badges in Saudi Arabia and the UAE. We found no confirmation from an official board or major outlet for the Korea, Japan and Brazil entries.

Notebookcheck’s headline frames the ratings as a censorship risk at launch. That is speculation. Nothing we found shows Rockstar, Take-Two or any ratings board requiring cuts.

What we don’t know yet

Why PEGI removed the listing. The board has not said whether the page went up early, contained errors or was pulled at a publisher’s request.

Whether the drug mechanics PEGI described are player-facing systems, scripted moments or something in between. Rockstar has not detailed any of it.

Whether any regional version differs from the ESRB and PEGI builds. The only precedent that matters is San Andreas, which the ESRB briefly re-rated AO in 2005 after the “Hot Coffee” content surfaced and then returned to M once Rockstar patched it out, per AP, Fox News and ESRB statements. That was a reaction to hidden content, not a pre-release cut.

What it means

The ratings themselves change nothing. M and 18 are the series baseline, and the reported ESRB descriptor list reads like GTA V’s. The practical news is that a ratings board, not Rockstar, has given the first description of inventory-based drug use and detailed dismemberment in the game.

Secondary outlets place the release on Nov 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Until Rockstar, Take-Two or PEGI speaks, the deleted page is a snapshot of content disclosure, not evidence of regional edits. We will update if an official board or Rockstar addresses the wording.
