Every cheat code in GTA 5 story mode works on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 with the same controller inputs Rockstar shipped in 2013. This list gives you all 36 of them, grouped by what they do, with the phone number alternative for each one and the catches that stop players from getting what they typed in.
The short answer
Enter the button sequence on your DualShock 4 or DualSense while the game is running and unpaused. A small “Cheat activated” notification appears in the top left corner when the input lands. There is no cheat menu, no pause screen entry and no console command on PlayStation. You either tap the combo or dial the number on the in-game phone.
The most used code is the weapons cheat: Triangle, R2, Left, L1, X, Right, Triangle, Down, Square, L1, L1, L1. It hands you every weapon in the game with full ammo, which is why it sits at the top of the ranked list below.
Quick steps: enter a cheat on PS4 or PS5
- Load a Story Mode save and make sure you are not in a mission that blocks cheats.
- Stay in gameplay with the game unpaused. Standing still helps for long combos.
- Press the buttons in order at a steady pace, roughly one input every half second.
- Watch for the confirmation text at the top left of the screen.
- For toggle cheats like Slippery Cars, enter the same combo again to switch it off.
How we ranked the best PS4 cheats
Three things decide the order. Usefulness in normal play comes first, meaning how often the cheat saves you time or money against buying the same thing at a Los Santos store. Reliability comes second, because a few codes have conditions attached. Fun factor is the tiebreaker. Skyfall is not useful but it is in the top ten anyway, and we stand by that.

This is the top pick because it replaces hundreds of thousands of GTA dollars of Ammu-Nation shopping in one input. You get every weapon category your character can hold, fully loaded. The weapons stay in your inventory until you reload a save, even if you die. Enter it again when ammo runs low and the game tops you back up.
One note: the cheat gives you base weapons without attachments. Suppressors, extended clips and scopes still cost money at Ammu-Nation.
2. Invincibility
Buttons: Right, X, Right, Left, Right, R1, Right, Left, X, Triangle

Five minutes of total immunity. Bullets, explosions, fire, falls and vehicle crashes do nothing to you. The timer is the catch. Rockstar deliberately capped it at 300 seconds, and the game does not warn you when it expires. Set a mental clock or re-enter the code every four minutes if you are mid-rampage.
Drowning still works on you. Invincibility covers damage, not oxygen.
3. Lower Wanted Level

Each entry removes one star. At five stars you need to enter it five times, so memorise this one rather than looking it up with a tank on your tail. The reduction is instant and the police stop pursuing immediately. This is the single most practical cheat for anyone who got carried away with code number one.
4. Max Health and Armor

Refills health to full and adds a full armor bar. Unlike invincibility it has no timer, and the armor it grants is identical to the Super Heavy Armor Ammu-Nation sells. Use it between firefights rather than during, since the 12-button combo takes a few seconds and you will be standing still while you input it.
5. Buzzard Attack Chopper

A Buzzard costs $2,000,000 from Warstock Cache & Carry in story mode. This code spawns one for free, armed with miniguns and homing missiles. It is the best vehicle cheat by a wide margin because it solves travel and combat at the same time. The helicopter spawns directly in front of you, so clear some space or it lands on a parked car.
6. Super Jump
Buttons: Left, Left, Triangle, Triangle, Right, Right, Left, Right, Square, R1, R2

Hold Square to charge and your character clears buildings. Combined with Invincibility it turns Los Santos into a parkour map. Fall damage still applies if invincibility is off, and a super jump from a rooftop will kill you on landing. Enter the code again to switch it off.
7. Explosive Bullets

Every round from every gun becomes a small explosive. A pistol shot flips a sedan. The downside is obvious when you fire at anything within ten metres of yourself. Pair it with Invincibility or you will blow yourself up within a minute. It toggles off with a second entry.
8. Skyfall

The code teleports you several thousand feet into the air above your current position with no parachute. Dial the parachute cheat first, then Skyfall, and you can deploy with X on the way down. Without a chute you can survive by steering into deep water. The 16-input combo is the longest in the game, so most players use the phone number for this one.
9. Slow Motion
Buttons: Triangle, Left, Right, Right, Square, R2, R1

Each entry slows the game further, up to three levels. A fourth entry returns to normal speed. The slowdown applies to everything, including your own inputs, which makes it a filmmaking tool more than a combat aid. Slow Motion Aim (code 22 below) is the version that helps in a gunfight.
10. Drunk Mode

Your character staggers, the camera sways and driving becomes a liability. There is no gameplay advantage at all. It is on this list because it is the cheat that gets the biggest reaction when someone else is watching, and because Trevor driving drunk down the Senora Freeway remains one of the better things in the game. These change your character directly. All of them work for Michael, Franklin and Trevor, and switching characters while a toggle is active keeps it running.

Fast Swim deserves more credit than it gets. The water around Los Santos is enormous and the Kraken sub is slow. With this toggle on, swimming across the Alamo Sea takes under a minute instead of a tedious crawl.
Recharge Special Ability refills Michael’s bullet time, Franklin’s driving focus or Trevor’s rage. It is the one cheat worth using in a mission that allows it, since the special abilities are built into how each heist plays out.
Agent's note
The parachute cheat and Skyfall work well as a pair. Dial 1-999-759-3483 for a parachute first, then 1-999-759-3255 for Skyfall, and you can open the chute on the way down instead of hitting the ground. Skyfall on its own gives you no parachute and no safe landing. Most players try Skyfall on its own, die, and never go back to it.

Explosive Melee is the one in this group that catches people out. Punching a car sets it off, and the blast hits you at point blank range. Turn on Invincibility first or accept that your first swing will probably be your last.
Flaming Bullets is the most interesting of the three ammo modifiers for actual play. Incendiary rounds ignite vehicles over a few seconds instead of detonating them instantly, which is useful when you want a car to burn out rather than vanish. It also makes the Jerry Can and Molotovs redundant. Explosive Bullets and Flaming Bullets can both be active at the same time, though explosions take priority on impact.

Notice that Raise Wanted Level and Lower Wanted Level use the same first four inputs and then mirror the direction pad sequence. Lower goes Right, Left, Right, Left, Right, Left. Raise goes Left, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right. Mixing them up when you want a five star escape is a common and expensive mistake.
Slow Motion Aim only slows the world while you hold L2 to aim, which makes it a genuine advantage in firefights. The first level is close to how Michael’s special ability feels. The third level is almost frozen.
Moon Gravity barely changes your character on foot. Get in any vehicle, hit a ramp and the difference becomes obvious. Cars float for several seconds, and a motorcycle off the Vinewood hills will clear whole neighbourhoods. Combine it with Slippery Cars and the game stops resembling a driving sim entirely.
Change Weather steps through the full list each time you enter it: extra sunny, clear, cloudy, smoggy, overcast, rain, thunderstorm and clearing. Snow is in the rotation on PS4 and PS5, so eight or nine entries from a sunny start will put snow on Grove Street in the middle of July.
Vehicle cheats
All vehicle spawns appear a few metres in front of your character. If you are indoors or on a narrow street, the game picks the nearest clear spot, which is sometimes on a roof or through a wall. Spawning while standing in open road is the safest habit.

Added up, the purchasable vehicles in that table cost $2,803,000 at Los Santos dealerships. Twelve button presses for the Buzzard alone saves you more than the Pacific Standard heist money pays some crew members.
The Rapid GT is the best car in the group for everyday driving, and the Comet is close behind. The Duster is a crop duster, slow and fragile, but it spawns on the ground and takes off in a very short distance, which is more than the Mallard stunt plane can claim. The Trashmaster is a garbage truck. People spawn it once to see what happens, then never again, although its weight makes it an oddly good ramming vehicle during a four star chase.
The Caddy is a golf cart. It is useless for everything except reaching the Los Santos Golf Club without walking, and the caddy that spawns there anyway makes the cheat redundant. It stays in the list because it exists.
Phone-only vehicles with unlock conditions
Three vehicles have no button combo and have to be dialled. Each one also has a prerequisite in story mode.

These three were added with the PS4 and Xbox One release in November 2014 and carried over to PS5. The Duke O’Death is the most worthwhile. It is an armoured muscle car that shrugs off small arms fire and survives collisions that would total a normal vehicle. On the original PS3 version these numbers did nothing, so if you are reading an older list that skips them, that is why.
How to use the in-game phone instead of buttons
Every cheat with a phone number can be entered by dialling it, and on PS4 and PS5 that is often faster than a 12-input combo. Press up on the d-pad to bring up the phone, select Contacts, then press Square to open the keypad. Type the number and press X to call.
The letter version of each number, like TOOLUP or PAINKILLER, is just a memory aid. The keypad uses standard letter-to-digit mapping, so TOOLUP spells 866-587 on the dial. You still type digits on console.
Phone cheats have one real advantage over buttons: the number stays in your call history. After the first dial, open the phone, go to recent calls and redial without typing anything. For cheats you re-enter often, such as Lower Wanted Level or Invincibility, this is the quickest method on a controller.
PS5 Expanded & Enhanced: what is different
Nothing in the cheat list changed for the PS5 version released in March 2022. Every button combo above uses the same inputs on the DualSense as on the DualShock 4. The phone numbers are identical. The three unlock-gated vehicles carry the same conditions.
What did change is the surrounding experience. The PS5 edition adds a 60 frames per second performance mode and faster loading, which matters for one specific cheat habit: reloading a save to clear active cheats and restore trophy eligibility takes seconds rather than the minute-plus wait on a base PS4 with a spinning disk.
The PS5 version also lets you transfer a PS4 story mode save across, and any cheat-related state does not transfer because cheats never save in the first place. You start the PS5 version clean.
Director Mode
Director Mode is a sandbox built into the Rockstar Editor. You pick a character from the story cast, pedestrians, animals or special actors, then drop into Los Santos with a settings menu that controls weather, time of day, wanted level, invincibility and more. It is the only place on console where cheats become menu toggles instead of inputs.
Dial 1-999-57-825368 (JRTALENT) to open it from the phone, or go to the pause menu, select Rockstar Editor and choose Director Mode. You need to be out of a mission and on foot.
The relevant detail for cheat users: Director Mode does not block trophies on its own, but the game treats it like a separate space. Anything you do inside it does not carry back to the story save. If you want to film a stunt with Moon Gravity and Slippery Cars active, Director Mode is where to do it, since the cheats are available as switches there and you can reset them without reloading.
How to turn cheats off
There is no master off switch. Each type of cheat ends differently.
Toggle cheats such as Super Jump, Fast Run, Fast Swim, Slippery Cars, Moon Gravity, Drunk Mode, Explosive Melee, Explosive Bullets and Flaming Bullets switch off when you enter the same code a second time.
Cycle cheats such as Slow Motion and Slow Motion Aim step through three levels and reset on the fourth entry. Change Weather simply keeps cycling until it lands on what you want.
Invincibility expires after five minutes on its own. Entering the code again while it is active turns it off early.
One-shot cheats such as weapons, health, vehicle spawns and parachutes cannot be undone. The weapons stay in your inventory and the vehicle stays where you left it until the game despawns it.
The clean way to clear everything is to load your last save. Cheats never write to the save file, so a reload returns you to an unmodified state. This also restores trophy eligibility, which is the reason most players reload anyway.
Heads up
Entering any cheat disables trophies until you load a save. Cheats cannot be saved and do not carry into GTA Online, where there are no cheats at all and modded play on PS4 or PS5 leads to a suspension or ban. Some story missions block specific cheats outright, and the game tells you when it does.
Mission and trophy limits worth knowing
The trophy lock is session based. Enter one cheat and every trophy stays dark until you reload. That includes the ones you would have earned anyway, like the mission completion trophies. If you are hunting the Platinum, finish the story clean or keep a separate save for cheat sessions.
Certain missions refuse certain cheats. Invincibility is the usual casualty in set pieces with scripted deaths or chases. The game displays a short message when a cheat is blocked, so you will not be left wondering why the combo did nothing.
Gold medal objectives on missions and strangers and freaks encounters are judged on performance, and cheats do not technically void them. In practice the trophy lock makes gold medals pointless until you reload, since the “Solid Gold, Baby!” trophy for 70 golds will not pop in a cheat session.
Switching characters does not clear cheats. If you turn on Fast Run as Franklin and switch to Trevor, Trevor runs fast too.
Common mistakes with controller entry
The most frequent failure is pace. Enter the inputs too slowly and the game forgets the sequence. Enter them too fast and it drops one. Roughly two inputs per second works. If you have tried a combo three times without the confirmation, slow down rather than speed up.
Direction pad inputs must be on the d-pad, not the left stick. Every “Left”, “Right”, “Up” and “Down” in these tables refers to the d-pad.
Several combos end in L1, L1, L1. That triple tap is where most people lose the Weapons and Health cheats. Count it out loud if you have to.
You cannot enter cheats while the pause menu, phone or weapon wheel is open. Close everything and stand in gameplay. You also cannot enter them during a cutscene.
Finally, the “Cheat activated” text is small and sits in the top left. If you are looking at your controller, you will miss it. Look up after the last input.
Why these cheats are worth learning
Rockstar has shipped cheat codes in every mainline Grand Theft Auto since the first game in 1997, and the Los Santos set is the most restrained of the lot. GTA San Andreas cheats could spawn a jetpack and turn every pedestrian into an Elvis impersonator. GTA 5 sticks to practical tools and a handful of jokes.

FAQ
Do GTA 5 cheat codes work on PS5?
Yes. The PS5 Expanded & Enhanced version uses every button combo and phone number from the PS4 release. Nothing was added or removed.
Can you use cheats in GTA Online on PS4?
No. There are no cheat codes in GTA Online on any platform. Anything advertised as an Online cheat on console is a mod menu, and Rockstar suspends or bans accounts caught using them.
Do cheats disable trophies in GTA 5?
Entering a single cheat locks trophies for that session. Loading a save restores them. Cheats never write to the save file, so a clean save stays clean.

Each one needs a story mode unlock first. The Dodo requires the Sea Plane random event, the Kraken requires all 20 wildlife photographs, and the Duke O’Death requires the Duel random event. They also have no button combo and only respond to the phone.
Does Invincibility stop me from drowning?
No. The five minute invincibility cheat blocks damage from weapons, explosions, fire, falls and crashes, but running out of oxygen underwater still kills you.
