Every working GTA San Andreas cheat, sorted by what it does, with the PC word, the PC letter string and the PlayStation button combo side by side. Xbox and Switch players get a one-line button translation that converts every combo on this page. Codes work in the 2004 original and the Definitive Edition unless a row says otherwise.
The short answer
Type the code during gameplay. On PC that means pressing the letters on your keyboard while CJ is standing in the street. On a console you tap the button sequence on the controller, again during play, not in a menu. When the input lands, the screen shows “Cheat Activated” and the effect kicks in immediately.
The three codes most people are hunting for are HESOYAM (full health, full armor, $250,000), AIWPRTON (spawn a Rhino tank) and AEZAKMI (police ignore you forever). On PlayStation those are R1, R2, L1, X, Left, Down, Right, Up, Left, Down, Right, Up for the money code, and Circle, Circle, L1, Circle, Circle, Circle, L1, L2, R1, Triangle, Circle, Triangle for the tank.
Everything else is below, grouped the same way the game’s own cheat system groups them internally: weapons and health, wanted level, CJ’s stats, vehicle spawns, traffic behaviour, gangs and pedestrians, then weather and time.
What you need before you start
The list is short, but each item trips up somebody every week.
- A save you are willing to spoil. Several cheats write themselves into the save file permanently, and the Definitive Edition kills trophies and achievements the moment a code is accepted.
- Control of CJ in the open world. Cheats do not register on the pause screen, in cutscenes, in the loading tunnel between regions or while the game is asking you to save.
- On PC, a keyboard. Both the 2005 original and the Definitive Edition read raw key presses, so typing works at any point during play. No console window is needed.
- On the 2013 mobile port, a Bluetooth keyboard. The touchscreen has no cheat entry of its own.
- On consoles, a controller and a steady rhythm. The game accepts the sequence at normal play speed, so do not mash.
- A note of the “Times Cheated” counter in the Stats menu if you care about tracking what you have done. It never resets.
How to enter GTA San Andreas cheats on every platform
PC: original and Definitive Edition
The PC version accepts two kinds of input. Seven-letter strings like HESOYAM were in the game from day one. Full words like FULLCLIP were added by Rockstar for the PC release and carried over into the Definitive Edition. Both do the same things, and you can use whichever is easier to remember.
Quick steps: enter a cheat on PC
- Load a save and wait until you can move CJ freely.
- Type the code on your keyboard. No chat box, no Enter key, no tilde.
- Watch for the “Cheat Activated” text in the top left of the screen.
- Type the same code again to turn off any toggle cheat, such as flying cars.
There is no need to type quickly. The original PC version keeps the last 30 or so keystrokes in a buffer and checks them against every code after each key press, which is also why a wrong letter in the middle of a word cancels nothing; you just start the word again.
PlayStation 5, PS4, PS3 and PS2
The button combos in the tables below are the PlayStation inputs. They work on the PS2 disc, the PS3 and PS4 classic re-releases and the Definitive Edition on PS4 and PS5. Press each button one after another at a walking pace. If you are in a vehicle, directional inputs on the stick count the same as the D-pad, which is why the tank code sometimes fails while you are steering: the game is reading your turning as part of the sequence. Stop the car first.
Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and the original Xbox
Every PlayStation combo converts with one fixed mapping. The buttons sit in the same physical positions on both controllers, so you are only swapping labels.
Nintendo Switch
The Definitive Edition on Switch uses the same combos again, with Nintendo’s labelling. Watch the face buttons: Nintendo’s A sits where PlayStation’s Circle is, and B sits where Cross is. Reading a PlayStation combo and pressing “A” where you see “X” is the single most common reason Switch players report that a cheat “doesn’t work”.

Worked example, the money code: on Xbox it becomes RB, RT, LB, A, Left, Down, Right, Up, Left, Down, Right, Up. On Switch it becomes R, ZR, L, B, Left, Down, Right, Up, Left, Down, Right, Up.
Mobile and Netflix
There are two different mobile versions and they handle cheats differently.
The 2013 iOS and Android port (the one sold on the App Store and Google Play) has no on-screen cheat input. Pair a Bluetooth keyboard with your phone or tablet and type the PC codes while the game is running. The game treats the keyboard exactly like the PC version does.
The Netflix version, released on December 14, 2023, is the Definitive Edition and is included with a Netflix subscription. It supports Bluetooth controllers, so the console button combos from the tables apply when you have a pad connected. A Bluetooth keyboard also lets you type the PC strings. Either way, you need external hardware; touch controls alone cannot trigger a cheat.
Weapon, health and money cheats
These are the ones that change how a session plays. HESOYAM alone covers money, health and armor in one input, and it also repairs whatever vehicle you are sitting in.

What each weapon set gives you
The sets are not cumulative; entering set 2 replaces the slot-by-slot contents of set 1 where they overlap.
- Set 1 (Thug’s Tools): brass knuckles, baseball bat, 9mm pistol, shotgun, Micro SMG, AK-47, rifle, rocket launcher, Molotov cocktails, spray can.
- Set 2 (Professional Tools): knife, Desert Eagle, sawn-off shotgun, Tec-9, M4, sniper rifle, flamethrower, grenades, fire extinguisher.
- Set 3 (Nutter Tools): chainsaw, silenced pistol, combat shotgun, MP5, M4, heat-seeking rocket launcher, remote satchel charges.
For context on what you are skipping, a 9mm at Ammu-Nation costs $200 and an M4 runs $5,000, so one entry of set 2 saves you more than a full “Reuniting the Families” payout.
Agent's note
HESOYAM is the only cheat that repairs the vehicle you are in, which makes it a better “fix my car” button than the Pay ‘n’ Spray. Enter it mid-chase in a smoking Infernus and the engine is fully restored with no cutscene.

AEZAKMI is permanent for the rest of the session and, in the original game, stays attached to the save. Six stars pulls the army onto the streets with Rhinos and Hydras, which is the fastest legal-ish way to see a tank before you reach the desert.
CJ stat, body and movement cheats
These edit the stats you would otherwise grind at the gym, at Cluckin’ Bell or behind the wheel. Muscle and fat have gameplay consequences: max muscle raises melee damage and sex appeal, max fat lowers stamina and gets you insulted on the street.

Max respect matters more than it looks. Respect sets how many homies you can recruit, so WORSHIPME plus a group of seven Grove Street soldiers turns the gang war missions into a walk. Max driving skill also removes the wheelie penalty on bikes, which is why speedrunners who allow cheats use NATURALTALENT first.
Vehicle spawn cheats
Spawned vehicles drop in front of CJ, so stand in an open street. Try the Hydra in a Los Santos alley and it clips into a building and explodes before you can climb in.

The Rhino is the only one of these you cannot buy or steal from the civilian world, which is why AIWPRTON is still the most typed GTA San Andreas cheat two decades on.

Flying cars needs a bit of technique. Hit nitro or top speed, pull back on the stick and the car climbs; push forward to dive. The same input applies to the Trashmaster, which is a strange and slow glider, and to the Caddy, which barely leaves the tarmac.
The cars-explode-on-contact code is the one that ends most sessions early. Clip a parked Perennial at 20 mph and both vehicles go up. Pair it with aggressive drivers and the streets turn into a chain reaction you cannot outrun.
Gang, pedestrian and world cheats
Several of these are session changers, and three of them are famous for wrecking saves. Read the warning before you enter anything in this table.

Heads up
The riot, “everyone attacks you” and “pedestrians carry weapons” cheats cannot be switched off after you save in the original game, and the gang cheats can stop story pedestrians and mission targets from spawning. Enter them on a throwaway save or do not save at all. In the Definitive Edition, any accepted cheat disables trophies and achievements for that save.
The recruit cheats are the sleeper picks here. With ZSOXFSQ active you can walk up to any pedestrian, hold the recruit button and hand them a rocket launcher. Six of them in a Rancher clears a gang territory in under a minute, with the drawback that they will blow up the car you are all sitting in if you let them fire at close range.
Weather and time cheats
Harmless, save-safe and genuinely useful for photo mode in the Definitive Edition.

Foggy weather is worth a mention because it is a real tactical tool, not just a filter. Fog cuts the draw distance for police helicopters as well as for you, so a four-star escape through the Mount Chiliad trails becomes far easier with CFVFGMJ active.
Faster gameplay doubles movement and clock speed, and is the standard trick for burning through the 24-hour wait before a new region loads a property for sale. Slower gameplay stacks with adrenaline mode for Max Payne style shootouts, though the audio pitch drops in the original versions and sounds broken.
Best cheats to actually use
Out of ninety-odd codes, these are the eight that an experienced player keeps in rotation. The rest are novelties you try once.
- HESOYAM. Money, health, armor and a car repair in one. It is the only cheat that replaces three systems at once, and $250,000 per entry means a single entry buys the most expensive safehouse in the game, the $120,000 Mulholland property, with money left over.
- AEZAKMI. Never wanted. Enter it once and the game becomes a sandbox. You still get the five stars at Area 69 scripted events, but general driving, shooting and tank joyrides draw no response.
- AIWPRTON. The Rhino. Its cannon kills anything in one shot and the hull cannot be damaged by bullets. Pair it with AEZAKMI and you can drive it from Grove Street to Las Venturas with no interruption.
- JUMPJET. The Hydra is the fastest vehicle in the game and it carries heat-seeking missiles. Spawning it in Los Santos skips about 60 hours of story progression toward the aircraft carrier.
- YECGAA. The jetpack is the best exploration tool Rockstar has ever shipped. Hover at building height, land anywhere, and collect the 50 tags, 50 horseshoes, 50 oysters and 50 snapshots without fighting a single wall.
- WANRLTW. Infinite ammo removes reloading entirely, which changes how the sawn-off shotgun and Desert Eagle feel. It is the cheat most likely to make a mission trivial.
- VQIMAHA. Max driving and flying skill. Flight school is the most hated section of the game, and this code gets you most of the competence without the lessons (it does not unlock the Hunter, which still needs gold medals).
- PGGOMOY. Perfect handling turns the physics into an arcade racer. Combine it with SPEEDFREAK and a Hotring Racer and the Los Santos Forum lot becomes a drift course.
The one code to avoid entirely is JCNRUAD, cars explode on contact. It is a comedy cheat for two minutes and then it costs you every vehicle you touch.
Common mistakes and troubleshooting
Cheat entry fails for a handful of predictable reasons. Check these in order.
The game says nothing after you type. On PC you must be in gameplay, not on the pause map and not in a shop or a mini-game. Alt-tab back in and try again. Caps lock does not matter; the game reads key presses, not characters.
A console combo keeps failing. Stop moving. Stick and D-pad directions both count as inputs, so any steering or walking while you press the buttons corrupts the sequence. Stand still, then enter it.
It worked before but a second entry does nothing. Most world and vehicle cheats are toggles, and the second entry switched the effect off. Enter it a third time to turn it back on.
The Switch version “ignores” cheats. Nine times out of ten you pressed Nintendo’s A where the guide said X. Re-read the translation table: Cross maps to B on Switch, Circle maps to A.
Spawned vehicle explodes instantly. You spawned it in a tight space. Move to a wide road or parking lot. The Hydra and Hunter need the full width of a two-lane street.
Trophies stopped unlocking. You are playing the Definitive Edition and accepted a code on this save. There is no way to re-enable them; start a fresh save for trophy hunting.
A story pedestrian or vehicle never shows up. Check whether a gang cheat (MROEMZH or BIFBUZZ) or reduced traffic (THGLOJ) is on. Toggle them off and leave the area for the game to repopulate.

“Times Cheated” went up and you want it back to zero. It never decrements. Cheating can also interfere with 100% completion tracking and, in the Definitive Edition, blocks trophies and achievements on that save, so treat the counter as a warning rather than a vanity figure.
What to expect after a code lands
Two things happen on every successful entry. The “Cheat Activated” message appears in the upper left for about two seconds, and the Stats menu increments “Times Cheated” by one. Spawn cheats drop the vehicle roughly a car length ahead of CJ, facing the direction he faces. Stat cheats update the relevant bar in the Stats screen immediately, so you can confirm max muscle or max respect without leaving the menu.
Weapon set cheats also fill ammo to a fixed amount per weapon rather than to the maximum the slot can hold. If you want capacity rather than a top-up, enter the set, then enter FULLCLIP for infinite ammo.
The one effect you will not see is a change to mission scripts. The game does not block missions after cheating, and it does not warn you when a cheat is about to break one. The responsibility sits with you, which is why a dedicated “cheat save” slot is the habit worth building before you type anything.
